The basement is an important area of your home whether it is being used as storage or if you have a finished space down there. Due to this, it is necessary that the entire area is free of standing water and excess humidity and flooding are controlled. Due to the fact that water can get into your basement by a variety of different places, there are a variety of repair solutions and products that we will install to keep the water under control. The primary places that we find water leaking is through cracks in the basement walls, whether these are in concrete or at the joints where the blocks meet, at the cove joint, where the basement wall and floor meet, and finally at windows that are at or below grade.
No matter where the problem may be, there are solutions that are designed to collect, transport, and remove the water from your basement. If there are dripping cracks, the first thing to do is installing a wall crack repair to prevent the crack from growing and leaking. If the water is coming in at the cove joint or even the windows, having a custom drainage system installed can remove the water from your basement. In some of the more problematic cases, usually with older block, brick, or stone foundations, we will install an entire wall solution that is made up of a floor to ceiling heavy duty liner that will collect and divert water. If you've already got a waterproofing system in place but it is unable to keep up with demand, we can replace it with a new, upgraded sump pump to make the system as good as new. On top of installing systems, we can also evaluate the drainage in your yard to help keep water from standing at the foundation and seeping in.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may also see an issue where the basement walls are bowing into the area. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation. If you have basement walls that are bowing, depending on how badly the wall is bowing, it can be solved with a few potential options. Our team can install a system of wall anchors, these are 2 large plates connected by a long, steel rod, or tall braces that sit directly against the problem area to push the section back in line and control further bowing, or carbon fiber staples to strengthen weak areas and prevent the wall from bowing. When properly used, these products will repair the bowing wall and prevent it from coming out of alignment again.
Crawl Space Solutions
In Momence, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, we will install a combination dehumidifier and air filter. This will prevent high levels of humidity in addition to removing pollutants from the air.
We also offer a variety of services to upgrade the basement and crawl space areas of your home. We can upgrade, replace, or install new basement windows to improve the air flow or provide additional light in the area. During basement waterproofing, we can install our wall system as part of a pre-finishing service that is both waterproof as well as resistant to mildew growth. When you are building a new home, we can install a system of new construction waterproofing systems to prevent any water from entering the home before it can become a problem. If you've already got a waterproofing system in place, we can perform our preventive maintenance inspection so you know it will continue to work at peak efficiency.
