DOWNERS GROVE, IL: March 7, 2012 – Perma-Seal is sponsoring a children’s book collection to support local non-profit Bernie’s Book Bank throughout the month of March. The goal is to collect 1,000 children’s books!
Bernie’s Book Bank collects, processes and distributes quality new and gently used children’s books to at-risk children all over Chicago and its suburbs with the intention of creating book owners and readers for a lifetime. Founded in December 2009, Bernie’s Book Bank has distributed more than 600,000 books to Chicago-area children through schools and other organizations that serve large populations of at-risk children.

Roy Spencer, Owner and President, has successfully incorporated the idea of giving back in the company’s mission, to “make the world a better place.” Perma-Seal employees have nurtured and supported this philanthropic spirit. They are excited to be collecting books for Bernie’s Book Bank and helping at-risk kids – it’s a natural fit.
Books collected for Bernie’s Book Bank are sorted according to reading level, fingerprinted with a Bernie’s Book Bank sticker and delivered to at-risk children in Chicago and its suburbs within seven days. Every child served receives at least two bags of books per year. Because of the support of volunteers and businesses like Perma-Seal, the cost to collect, process and deliver books is only 25 cents per book.
“Children grow out of books as quickly as they grow out of shoes,” says Bernie’s Book Bank Executive Director Brian Floriani. “So the supply of used books is virtually unlimited. We’re so thankful for the support that Perma-Seal is giving us by becoming a partner in collecting used books for children.”
If you have CHILDREN’S books to donate, please bring them to Perma-Seal anytime in March. The books are being collected at Perma-Seal’s headquarters at 513 Rogers Street in Downers Grove. Books can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 7:00 am and 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please bring CHILDREN’S books only… no workbooks, textbooks, reference books or adult books.
