Battery Backup Sump Pumps

All storm water pumps require a backup pump.  All pumps can and do fail and usually do so during storms, when they are most needed.  In addition, all neighborhoods are subject to power outages which cause all electric operated sump pumps to stop working.  Battery backup pumps can solve both problems: operating regardless if the primary pump has failed or in the event of a power failure.

So which backup pump is best?  The most common reason for a backup pump to fail is poor battery maintenance.  Very few homeowners have the time, ability or interest to properly maintain a battery's optimal acid/water balance.  All of Perma-Seal's backup systems are installed with a MAINTENANCE FREE BATTERY which is sealed and carries a full 3-year replacement warranty.  A sealed battery is also the safest one to keep in a home, especially if there are small children or pets in the residence.

The other determinant of the proper backup system is to ensure that it has enough pumping capacity to replace your primary pump's capacity.  It does little good for a backup pump to run if it can not keep up with the water flow - your basement will still get water or flood.  Perma-Seal's trained consultant's can inspect your situation and recommend the proper size backup system.

WATER OPERATED BACKUP SYSTEMS - There are also available backup systems that operate off your water supply, eliminating the need for batteries completely.  This may seem attractive but they are NOT the best solution for most homes.  Water operated pumps have very low capacity (typically 300-500 gallons/hour) compared to your primary pump (2,000-3,000 gallons/hour).  In addition, a faulty installation could contaminate your home's water supply.
