A leaky basement means you lose valuable living and storage space. Wet basements dramatically impact a home's value. Why Does My Basement Leak?
During the construction phase of a home that is going to have a basement the builder digs a hole in the ground. This hole disturbs the virgin soil, soil that may not have been touched for thousands of years. This process is necessary in order to build a foundation.
Your home's foundation is the structural support that becomes the load bearer of everything that goes on top of the foundation, a tremendous amount of weight. Water and disturbed soil is where Newton's Law of Gravity and the path of least resistance collide.

I'm Handy I'll Fix it Myself
“Great news honey, I fixed our wet basement for just $59 bucks”. A line we have heard many times just a few months after a well intentioned do-it-yourself handyman tried to use one of the many remedies that you find for sale and promoted as “waterproofing” products in hardware stores. It seemed to be – and it was – too good to be true.
Special formulated “basement paint” claims to be a quick fix solution to waterproofing problems. It may appear to work for a short period but the real underlying issue has not been resolved. After a few weeks or months you'll once again be experiencing water stains and seepage. Here is an analogy – it's like going to a physician with a torn ACL only to have him put a cast on your leg and send you home. During the period while you are wearing the cast your leg feels fine, it is only when you get the cast removed and experience instability that you realize you still have a problem. Upon consulting a competent physician you soon find out that a cast and rest won't repair a torn ACL. Basement paint doesn't work, it may provide you a temporary sense of security believing your basement moisture is gone, however, that feeling will be fleeting.
The Problems With Basement Paint
The reason why basement paint doesn’t work is that it only fixes the problem cosmetically. It doesn’t actually do anything about the source of the water coming in from outside the basement.
